Should I convert this Mini Arcade Cabinet controller Holder thingy into a self contained arcade cabinet?

Ooh. I remember those. I almost bought one of them back when Lik-Sang had them in stock.

As for your question, go for it - that'd be neat to see.

I still mourn the loss of Lik-Sang, they were great......

:(

OK, I'm not waiting any longer, after seeing Vance Fry's incredible Pixelbox I am going to do it.

I have ordered a very cute little 8 inch TFT screen with both composite and VGA inputs and as it is a National Holiday in the U.K. on Monday I am going to make a start this long weekend.

I am not sure if I will copy Vance's approach and build a micro sized PC and run Mame or simply re-work one of those dedicated "plug and play" TV games.

I will run a new thread detailing the build for anyone bored enough to read it ;-)

Let the mayhem commence!

Cheers

Pointy

Hey Pointy

I was interested in how this project is going... or maybe you were talking about the bank holiday at the end of May ;)

I hope it wasn't one of those moments after a few beers where the mini cabinet controller caught your eye and you had visions...

Another reminiscent sigh for Lik-Sang from me too.

No haven't given up yet!

Still waiting for my lovely 8 inch TFT screen. I Found one that has both VGA and composite inputs.

Now I have to decide if i will go the whole 9 yards and build a nano PC running mame from Compact flash or take the easy route and use an all in one TV game and tear out it's innards!

hmmmm.........

That's great.

Just don't make it so difficult for yourself that you never end up finishing it. I think we've all been there at some point!

Would the nano PC be small enough to fit inside of one of those? It doesn't look like it's too big from the picture.

Depends on what you want to run in there... if all you wanted was Space Invaders, or any single game, you could put something as small as a GBA in there. Hell, I bet you could put a GBA running an emulator in and get a bunch of games, or maybe a PDA or something similarly small.
